Why Should You Care?

Stop the Racetrack in River Falls, Wisconsin

The Stop the Racetrack Coalition in River Falls, Wisconsin is busy working on strategies to stop the proposed racetrack in our beautiful city by   Kinnik Development Group, LLC. We have many people wanting to join the efforts to prevent this initiative, which would negatively affect the quality of lives of those who live in and around our community.

At this time, a core group, including administrators on the Stop the River Falls Racetrack Facebook, citizens monitoring city planning, representatives from various environmental organizations and land use advocates - is meeting to establish strategies to prevent the racetrack and proposed development.

We need everyone affected by and interested in the prevention of this initiative to stand up to prevent it from occurring. This website, which is a work in progress, will update regularly with information that can Stop the Racetrack in River Falls. Please check back regularly for research, meeting notes, calls to action activities, and more. Documents for this initiative are updated regularly at: Click Here.

Proposal in Conflict with River Falls Future Land-Use

The Racetrack Proposal is in conflict with existing "future land-use" designations in the city’s current comprehensive plan. These future land-use designations - which River Falls citizens and adjacent property owners have used to make decisions about where to live, what property to purchase, etc. were approved by the community through a formal process. This is a key reason the planning commission and River Falls City Council should tell Kinnik Development Group "no” to a Racetrack in our River Falls community.

Expensive

Your property taxes likely will increase when the City of River Falls pays for sewer, road work, and financing for the developer of this private club, a racetrack which is for members only.

Environmental Damage

Water, gasoline, oil runoff near compromised creeks. Clear cutting of trees. Damage to wildlife, air quality. Click Here for more information.

Traffic

You will deal with gridlock driving on freeway exits and nearby intersections. Emergency vehicle response may be slower due to daily racetrack traffic and frequent events for 5,000 people. Click Here for more information.

Noise

You will hear the track even if you live miles away.  Noise is a health hazard. Click Here for more information. Imagine your life in River Falls with race car sounds from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Click Here.

Decreased Market Value

The value of your home likely will drop if you are within a couple miles of the track. Click Here for more information.

Kinni Land Trust Opposes Racetrack

"The Kinnickinnic River Land Trust is strongly opposed to the proposed Kinnick Development racecourse along the South Fork of the Kinnickinnic River and its unnamed tributaries. This project is bad for the environment, the Kinnickinnic River, and the community. A development of this type would greatly disturb the environment along the South Fork east of River Falls. This area includes a stretch of the river, two  tributaries, floodplain, woodlands, and wetlands that currently help to  keep the Kinni running cold and clear." Racetrack Development Goes Against the City of River Falls Own Comprehensive Plan

Let's focus on just the first statement in the plan:

The Comprehensive plan sets the tone for the 20-year vision for the City of River Falls. The Comprehensive Plan will guide the community's future physical, social, and economic development to ensure River Falls is a THRIVING, PEOPLE-CENTERED, AND ENVIRONMENT-CONSCIOUS COMMUNITY.

This Racetrack goes against much of the Vision, Mission, and Statement posted the City of River Falls website: Click Here.

THE RACETRACK DEVELOPMENT WILL COST TAXPAYERS MONEY, LOWER PROPERTY VALUES, HURT THE ENVIRONMENT, AND AFFECT THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND HEALTH OF CITIZENS.
